Responding to a listener request, Danny Leskiw speaks with University of Toronto Dentistry Faculty Dr. David Locker about a concern that drives some people to consume bottled water at home, in spite of the environmental impact: concerns about health impacts of fluoridation in public water supplies. Dr. Locker dispels myths about health risks of fluoridation, and addresses misinterpretations of the current science.

I had a such high hopes for this segment when you first told me that “the green majority” would be covering the environmental aspects of water fluoridation, but I was really let down when it went to air on October 30th. First of all, this is not a health show, so you really missed the opportunity you had to get into the original issue I raised in my letter to you. Secondly, the information provided by Dr. Locker was severely flawed and I will be writting a longer letter to formally criticize his responses to be sent to you soon. Lastly, for now, I wanted to thank Danny Leskiw for asking the right questions and for remaining professional (even though his questions were mostly on the topic of human health and not the environment); despite Dr. Locker’s arrogance, clear side-stepping and blatant misinformation. I will be forwarding this interview for review by some individuals that would beg to differ with Dr. Locker and ecourage them to form a response on your website.
you still have an opportunity to do some real research and cover the environmental aspects of water fluoridation. until that time, “the green majority” has lost it’s credibility with me and i am sure any critical thinking individual who listens to your program (and that should–you would expect–be a great many).

Amazing! Dr. Locker says fluoride in air pollution is good for our teeth! So THAT must be the environmental health benefit of burning coal and refining petroleum! And he makes health claims of antibacterial action, topical and systemic benefit for industrial phosphate fertilizer waste in drinking water, which Health Canada rather frowns upon as there is no pharmacological and clinical substantiation for it. Tell us, Dr. Locker, since less than 1% of that beneficial drug is consumed by humans, are those antibacterial, topical and systemic benefits in the remaining 99% of water that goes down the drain also experienced by the downstream life forms in Ashbridge’s Bay?
