2010 is the United Nation’s International Year of Biodiversity. Ontario Power Generation Environmental Advisor Steve Hounsell speaks with Peter Stock about biodiversity and sustainability in general. In their double feature length interview, Steve discusses – frankly — the challenges and rewards of being an environmental activist in an industry not usually associated with progressive green policies, Biodiversity’s 4 R’s (Retain, Restore, Replace and Recover) and shares his concerns for the planet’s future.

Daryn speaks with Amara Possian with the Canadian Youth Delegation, a non-partisan group of 29 youth from across Canada “mobilizing around the UN climate negotiations”. Amara details her experience at the conference and takes a look from a policy perspective the events throughout the meeting.

Daryn is joined by Liam O’Doherty also live from Cancun who is with Taking-It-Global, a social networking website focusing on connecting youth to environmental and social justice initiatives. Liam is joined by TGM veteran Tyler Irving on the phone from Ottawa to discuss the youth action perspective from COP16 as well as the hope for an international deal in the future.

COP16

With COP16 underway the Green Majority team brings you some live on the ground reporting from Cancun. Up first is an update from TGM correspondent Joanna Dafoe, who is in Cancun as the Canadian tracker for the Adopt-A-Negotiator Program. She is joined as well by the American tracker Alex Start. We are then joined by Canadian Youth Delegation representative Daniel T’seleie also live from Cancun who fills us in on the youth perspective at this year’s COP meetings as well as his thoughts on the pursuit of a legally binding international climate agreement.
