Tyler recently completed his M.A.Sc. thesis on biofuels from microalgae in the department of Chemical Engineering and Applied Chemistry at the University of Toronto. He now works as a science writer, specializing in chemistry and chemical engineering issues. Previously, he worked as a science educator for various high schools, museums, and universities and is a former co-producer of The Green Majority. When not researching, teaching, or reporting, Tyler plays the Great Highland Bagpipe for parades, competitions, funerals, weddings, and Bar Mitzvahs.

Peter comes to journalism somewhat late, but with a wealth of life experience to draw on. School and work has taken him to Philadelphia, New York City and Europe. He spent the 90s mostly in France running his own travel company. Now back in his home town, Toronto, he’s also pursuing freelance non-fiction writing. A dedicated spoken word radio listener, Peter looks forward to contributing to that side of CIUT’s programming. Beyond his role at TGM, Peter is a regular contributor to Take 5, which airs every weekday from 8:30 to 10 am.

After finishing a BSc in Biology at Acadia University in Nova Scotia, Bryant moved to Toronto where he is working on a PhD in Immunology at the University of Toronto. Born and raised in Whitehorse, Yukon, he loves the outdoors and the lonely wilderness, enjoying canoeing, camping, and biking. Environmentally, he believes in letting sound science do the talking and is passionately opposed to political interference in scientific research.

Chris Hannay is a graduate of Carleton University’s School of Journalism, where he studied both science and journalism. He has served as the editor-in-chief of Carleton’s weekly newspaper, and has worked for publications large and small. When not creating or consuming journalism, he’s fond of performing improv comedy. He thinks community radio is fun and writing in the third person is awkward.

Jesse researches the gaseous regions around galaxies as a M.Sc. candidate in the Department of Physics and Astronomy at York University in Toronto. A long lived interest in environmental issues led Jesse to join the Green Majority as a contributor. In his spare time Jesse volunteers at the York University Observatory. He believes in order to ensure quality of life in the future, sustainable living must be initiated now in all areas of the community.

Melissa has a background in Radio Broadcasting from Seneca College and has contributed articles to student newspapers such as York University’s Excalibur and the Ryerson Free Press. While studying English and Communications at York she volunteered with CHRY radio and experienced being live on the air for the first time. In regards to the environment she’s interested in climate change issues in the Arctic including shipping, oil drilling, and development. Her other areas of interest include issues of globalization, culture, and human rights.

Dylan Jervis is a PhD student in Physics at the University of Toronto who studies what happens to atoms when they get very cold. He has worked at a hostel in New York City, driven a 1979 Volkswagon Beetle through Central America, and builds decks and repairs leaky pipes for a few weeks each year in the B.C. Rockies. Dylan did his undergraduate degree at McGill University.

Naomi Jehlicka is pursuing a double major in Criminology and Political Science at U of T and is currently in her fourth year of study. Her studies focus on environmental criminology from political, legal, and economic standpoints. In addition to being the Green Majority’s Environmental Law and Policy Correspondent, Naomi is the former president of the Trinity Environment Club and has been involved with many environmental endeavors across campus and the GTA. In her spare time, Naomi enjoys hiking, reading, and cooking up a storm.

Alex Nursall is an English/Visual Arts student at the University of Toronto. Though not an on-air personality on TGM, she provides technical production for the show each week. Before moving to Toronto, she worked at CKLU in Sudbury as a host on the show Unintentional Mohawk, and as an animal care technician at a local science center. When she’s not on the boards for TGM, Alex works as a technician/contributor for the CIUT shows Take 5, Innovations, and her own show The Beaver Lodge.

Rosemary Mosco, International news correspondant
Rosemary has worked and volunteered with a variety of nonprofits, including Toronto’s Fatal Light Awareness Program (FLAP). She runs a variety of web projects, such as Birds for Bulbs, a site that encourages people to make the switch to compact fluorescent light bulbs. She is also the author of Wild Toronto, a web comic on Torontoist.

Chris Berube is a student at the University of Toronto studying Political Science and Economics. Aside from being News Director at TGM, Chris also hosts his own music program on CIUT (Electric Boogaloo, airing each Friday afternoon from noon to 2pm), and is an editor at The Varsity student newspaper.

Simon Watson is a doctoral student in theology at the University of Toronto. His research focuses on the theodicy question in light of evolution; that is, how does one understand a loving and all-powerful God in the face of a natural system that seems cruel, wasteful, and arbitrary? He has written and/or worked for Toronto Life, the Queen’s Quarterly, CMAJ, and Random House of Canada. He completed an M.A. in English and Creative Writing at the University of Windsor.

Joanna Dafoe is taking Peace and Conflict studies and Environmental Policy at U of T. Her studies focus on the UN climate change negotiation process and the opportunities available for more effective environmental governance. Joanna is active in the Sierra Youth Coalition, the Canadian Youth Climate Coalition, and 350.org. She was a member of the Canadian Government Delegation to the 16th and 17th UN Commission on Sustainable Development. Whenever Joanna’s not with the books, she likes to get outdoors and read the poems of Loren Eiseley. She is the environmental justice correspondent for the Green Majority.
