I spent the afternoon yesterday at York University here in Toronto at Change Your World, a one day workshop for highschool students and their teachers.
The goal of the Change Your World Conference is to inspire and motivate youth to get involved and make a difference. The Conference workshops allow students to develop world changing skills while connecting with other students from across the province. The showcase of student projects celebrates outstanding student initiatives and achievements.
There were a variety of local environmental and social action groups on hand to carry out workshops with the students on topics ranging from urban gardening ( Foodshare ), solar power ( TRCA ) and Why Hip Hop Matters ( Youth Action Network ). There were workshops for the teachers as well, including one on a favourite resource of mine the CBC Digital Archives which contains many cool clips of Canadian media (audio and video) from the CBC vault.
While I was there I took in a short tour which discussed some of the environmental issues around campus. Oh yeah and I recorded it, so I will get the audio up as soon as possible. In the meantime here are a few pics from the tour (taken by one of my students and resident besustainable youth blogger Natalie (Thanks natalie!) to give you a bit of an idea what the scenery looks like.
