Sustainable Management Dictionary

April 12th, 2006 · No Comments

I just came across a super companion resource for anyone trying wrap there head around the diverse and intertwined world that is sustainability. Which in itself is a bit of a mind boggling task some days, since you really have to understand two worlds (the crazy one we are living in and the crazy, greener, future one we want to create).

So what’s the source? The Sustainable Management Dictionary, brought to you by the Presidio School of Management and hosted by the good folks at Triple Pundit, who were also a part in putting together the Carnival of the Green

This Dictionary of Sustainable Management is an open dictionary for business leaders and students of sustainability and business-related terms. The purpose of this effort is to help people better understand how sustainability concepts are creating new understandings in the worlds of business, government, and society.

I am an especially big fan of the ability to post comments to each term defined. a feature that should serve to round things out nicely and help us work towards a better community understanding of what a lot of sustainable ideas really mean. To wet your appetite just a little I will throw in a Sustainable Term of the Day (this could be a new feature, the STD of the day!, not bad!)

Today’s sustainable term:

Sustainable Management

The ability to direct the course of a company, community, organization, or country in ways that restore and enhance all forms of capital (human, natural, manufactured, and financial) to generate stakeholder value and contribute to the well-being of current and future generations.

I have been working on an idea for sustainability dictionary myself that might just play nice with the Sustainable Management Dictionary. I’ll wrap my head around it for a couple of days and post something new about it.
