Amory Lovins speaks to the Toronto Star

October 23rd, 2006 · No Comments

A long while back at besustainable I had community forums implemeted.  Before they became to much to handle (due to the excessive spam moreso than issues of community participation) there was a thread about “who influenced your environmental thinking”.  Among my top picks was Amory Lovins, his work in energy conservation over the past 30+ years is quite admirable and I have a great deal of respect for the thinking that comes out of the Rocky Mountain Institute (which was cofounded by Lovins).

There is a great inteview in yesterday’s Toronto Star with Lovins which looks at the energy outlook for Ontario.  Discussion of the nuclear option, renewables, and conservation are present in the article and I wish that every Ontario resident would take the time to review the article.

It’s lengthy, but you should make sure you read through to the advice Lovins offers to the province.  The highlights of which include

“Let electricity and energy compete fairly at honest prices regardless of which kind they are — savings or production — or what technology they use, or how big they are, or where they are, or who owns them.”

“make sure that the distributors of electricity and gas in the province are rewarded for cutting your bill, not for selling you more energy.”
