The Sounds Sustainable podcast had the opportunity to drop by the IT360 conference a couple of weeks back to check out what’s new in GreenIT.

The Conference…

“IT360° Conference & Expo 2008 is an interactive experience for IT professionals and business executives. Faced with the challenge of shrinking budgets and limited time to test or evaluate, IT360° provides a conference of 80+ educational sessions and an informative exposition where professionals can compare applications and solutions while learning first-hand from leading companies and their experts in this immersive arena.”

Green IT…

The conference this year took a good look at what is happening in the GreenIT space

“New this year, the IT Green Feature spotlights green or sustainable information systems and technology programs throughout the industry. An IT Green seminar series will be offered at the conference, and vendors will display green initiatives on the trade show floor. Among the topics addressed at IT360° will be energy efficiencies in servers and data centres, green business leadership, hazardous material reduction, and environmentally responsible IT asset disposal.”

While in attendance we managed to record a couple of sessions to share with you from the GreenIt content stream.

Recycling Council of Ontario addresses electronic and electrical wastes

Yesterday I recieved an email about the release of the new World Changing book. From the email, it’s…

A big compendium of tools and models that together illustrate a picture of the sustainable and just future we hope to create, it’s called WorldChanging: A User’s Guide to the 21st Century. At 600 full-colour pages, it was an enormous collaborative effort between more than 50 authors around the world. it’s also printed on recycled paper and the carbon impact of creating it - and its tour - have been offset by wind power.

The tour will be stopping by Toronto November 14th, 2006. Looks like as good a reason as any for me to make the journey to the big city.

A little about the event from WorldChanging.com:

Our Toronto stop is shaping up to be one of the biggest of the entire tour. It’s been really amazing to see the way all our Canadian colleagues have come together to create what looks to be an absolutely phenomenal evening of big ideas, worldchanging innovation, and community celebration. Ed Burtynsky, the noted photographer (and WC board member) and Ron Dembo (of Zerofootprint) will be joining editor Alex Steffen on stage to present an evening of Worldchanging ideas on November 14. Folks from the Art Gallery of Ontario will be creating an installation. Various DJs will lay down some sounds while we meet and mingle and party until late. This promises to be one of the most exciting events of the year. We hope you’ll plan to attend.
